Codes Enforcement and Zoning

The Codes and Zoning Department provides the administration and enforcement of regulatory ordinances adopted by Borough Council to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of everyone who lives, works or visits New Cumberland Borough.

Zoning
New Cumberland Borough has designated zoning districts throughout the Borough, which control development and usage of land. The zoning of an area or property can be changed or altered by submission of application to the Borough and a hearing with the Zoning Hearing Board who would determine the impact on that district and whether such change is appropriate.

Building Permits and Inspections
All permits start in the Borough Office in order to verify if it’s possible to move forward. Building Permits may be required to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change occupancy of buildings and structures including:

  1. Decks/Porch – Repair, Replace and New Construction
  2. Roof Replacement
  3. Pools – Installation and Removal
    – 24” or more in height require a building permit.
    – Emptying pool water into the street will be subject to a fine from DEP.
  4. Additions/Structural Changes
  5. Changes in use of a Property
