The 24-page brochure lists 48 places with a numbered map in the center, all within the original 1831 borough limits. The tour is structured as a roundtrip and takes approximately 90 minutes. It’s a fundraiser for the New Cumberland Public Library and is available to purchase at the library for $5. Enjoy getting a little exercise and learning about the rich history of New Cumberland.

A new boat launch in Borough Park, that serves as the final take-out point, prior to the dam, for non-motorized boats on the Yellow Breeches Creek Water Trail, was recently constructed. The project involved removing three deteriorating slabs of concrete at the existing creek access and installing a 15-foot-wide cast-in-place concrete ramp to provide ADA accessible access to Yellow Breeches Creek. It provides a firm, stable, and slip-resistant surface for boaters exiting the creek. The improvement will allow continued use of this site as a take-out for non-motorized boats including kayaks and canoes. The project also includes the installation of a new, 12-foot-wide gravel path from the existing parking lot in the park to the boat launch, a gravel parking space near the launch that can accommodate a trailer, and a paved, ADA accessible parking space, aisle, and bituminous walkway to reach the launch. A big thank you to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission for a $46,980.00 grant to help make this project happen.

The community garden features 26 individual growing plots and is meant to be a community asset where residents of the community can get their “green thumb” on. It is located behind the Borough Building. Find more information and reserve your spot at the Community Garden.

In 2023, the New Cumberland Borough Community Identity and Downtown Master Plan was adopted by Borough Council. Read about the process and the plan here. The Hillside Courts project, located on Hillside Elementary School, was completed in October 2023. This project included converting the old tennis courts at Hillside into the following:

• 2 regulation size basketball courts
• 1 tennis court
• 4 pickleball courts
• A “green space” where visitors can sit & relax
• Replacement of the fence surrounding the courts
• The project also remediated the drainage issue that caused erosion to the adjoining baseball field.

Hillside Courts provides a recreational amenity for a variety of recreational and leisure interests; and a place for people to gather in a safe and healthful setting in our wonderful town.

It should be noted that this project has been conducted by an all-volunteer staff.  It is not a New Cumberland Borough project, and it has used no local tax payer dollars to pay for the project.  The project has been designed in full cooperation and support with the West Shore School District, on whose property this project sits.

In the summer of 2021, New Cumberland Borough entered into a lease with Norfolk Southern for the river access area at the end of 3rd Avenue. The Borough is committed to improving the recreational and safety attributes of this site for the benefit of the community. In July 2023, new lights were installed at Riverside Park to increase safety and prevent unwanted and unruly conduct. Please remember all Borough Parks close at dusk and reopen at dawn.

Uses: Fish from the banks or launch your boat at the boat ramp. No jet skis. Be careful of river rocks that may cause damage to boats.

The Friends of the West Shore Theatre formed in 2019 to buy and save the Theatre and save it they have. In 2022, The West Shore Theatre opened to all and offers not just film, but live small-scale theatrical and musical productions, concerts, recitals, and a variety of community events.
