Planning Commission

Meets the 3^rd Wednesday of the month, as needed.

The Planning Commission is comprised of seven (7) members that are appointed by Borough Council and serve a four-year term. The Planning Commission acts as an advisor to Borough Council reviewing all subdivision and land development applications submitted to the Borough. At the request of the governing body the Planning Commission prepares a comprehensive plan for the long-term growth, development, and well-being of the municipality. The Planning Commission may also review the zoning ordinance, subdivision and land development ordinance, and zoning map, making recommendations to Borough Council.

Zoning Hearing Board

Meets as scheduled by public advertisement.

The Zoning Hearing Board is comprised of three (3) members that are appointed by Borough Council and serve a three-year term, and the term of one (1) member expires each year. 

The Zoning Hearing Board hears and decides appeals where it is alleged that the Zoning Officer has failed to follow prescribed procedure or has misinterpreted or misapplied any provision of the Zoning Ordinance. They also determine if a special exception and/or variance from the zoning ordinance is appropriate.

Library Board

Meets the 3^rd Tuesday of the month.

The New Cumberland Public Library is governed by a seven (7) member board of trustees that serve a three-year term. Board members serve as community volunteers, overseeing the library’s budget, strategic direction, and overall service delivery.

Police Civil Service Commission

The Police Civil Service Commission is comprised of three (3) members that are appointed by Borough Council and serve a six-year term. They are responsible for every appointment and promotion in the police force within the Borough according to qualification and fitness by examination on a competitive basis. The Police Civil Service Commission has the power to prescribe, amend, and enforce the rules and regulations approved by Borough Council.

Vacancy Board

The Vacancy Board consists of the Council, exclusive of the mayor, and one registered elector of the borough appointed by Council annually and the appointed individual serves as chair of the Vacancy Board. Vacancy Board is responsible to fill vacancies remaining unfilled beyond 30 days, whether the vacancy occurred in the office of the Mayor, Borough Council or Tax Collector by death, resignation, or removal.
